Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame
Selection Process, induction standards and nomination form.
The President of the Michigan Outdoor Writer’s Association shall be the Chair of the Selection Committee. The Committee shall be comprised of 5 individuals selected by the committee chair who shall serve for 2 years, (the same length as the term of the President of Michigan Outdoor Writer’s Association. Committee shall be comprised of at least on other member of the Michigan Outdoor Writer’s Association and one member of Michigan DNR. The two remaining members shall be comprised of dignified members of the outdoor community and shall not be hindered by occupational position, political party, race creed or gender. Any change in the HOF guidelines must be brought to the Board of Directors of the Michigan Outdoor Writer’s Association.
The committee shall nominate up to 3 candidates from the nomination applicants, based on contribution. The Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame may induct up to 2 additional iconic members without formal application through direct board nomination and vote for a total of 5 inductees per year. The committee may add one iconic “Michigan Company” at it’s discretion. The first year of this program will allow the Hall of Fame committee to select 5 iconic members plus one company for admission to the Hall.
Standards of Induction
The Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame committee will utilize the following standards for induction.
Candidates will have had statewide, regional or national significance in an Outdoor sport, Outdoor communications, Conservation volunteer, Governmental employee, or teacher and efforts will have been long term with undeniable impact over their lifespan. Inductees may include living members that have exhibited exemplary dedication over much of their life.
Any individual may nominate any candidate to the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame. Nomination forms will be kept on file and considered for 7 years. After the 7th year a new nomination form must be submitted to be considered for induction again, and the committee shall reconsider for a final period of 7 years. If the candidate is not voted in during the final 7 year period the candidate will no longer be eligible for consideration for the Michigan Outdoor Hall of Fame. Nomination forms shall be distributed upon request through the Michigan Outdoor Writer’s Association website and all nominations will be submitted to the current President of MOWA.
